This category is responsible for rewarding that film that becomes memorable throughout its career and it is the producers of this film who receive the award. (Hijo, 2022).

For the nomination and voting process, all members of the Academy can participate, as it covers all its branches, subdivisions and branches.(Martínez, 2012).

Best Director:

The director is the one who is in charge of coordinating all the production that a film entails and that is awarded in this category, the direction is in charge of organizing all the tone and style that the work itself entails (Hijo, 2022).

The directors branch is in charge of the entire process for the election of this category with all its members (Martínez, 2012).

Best Actor:

It is one of the most important awards, because together with its equal in best actress, it can transform the career of whoever is awarded with these. This category is responsible for rewarding those actors who star in the film and whose performance is memorable.(Hijo, 2022).

The actors subdivision is the one that makes the decision for the nominations and choose the winners of this category(Martínez, 2012).

Best Actress:

As in the previous category, this one seeks to reward the leading roles, played by women, that are most relevant and memorable for the Academy. The subdivision of actors is that specific part that will also be in charge of the entire process to choose the woman with the greatest performance in her role as the protagonist of the film (Martínez, 2012).

Best Supporting Actress:

In this category all members of the Actors Branch of the Academy participate in the voting.(Martínez, 2012).

This category is responsible for rewarding and recognizing those women who did exceptional work in supporting roles in films (Hijo, 2022).

Best Supporting Actor:

This category works the same as the best supporting actress, only here it is responsible for rewarding men who are playing a supporting role in a film.

In some cases, it has been seen how these secondary roles become even more relevant than that of the protagonist himself, an example would be Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker in Batman: The Dark Knight (Hijo, 2022).

Best Animated Short Film:

The short films and animation branch is the one in charge of choosing the winner of this category; however, not all members vote in this category (Martínez, 2012).

Animated short films are understood to be those that at the time of being recorded use some animation technique and have a duration of less than 40 minutes (Hijo, 2022).

Best Animated Film:

This category was created in 2001, in this category those films that have at least 75% animation, whether traditional or computerized, and last at least 70 minutes, participate (Hijo, 2022).

For this category, people inside and outside the branch of animators who are volunteers and have seen at least 80% of the films eligible for the category can participate (Martínez, 2012).

Best Original Screenplay:

The original script is one of the most important parts that are recognized in the awards, since they are the work created to give all the essence to the production. This script is not based on any previously published work (Hijo, 2022).

The writers branch is the one in charge of choosing this category, but if in the other branches there are people who have been nominated for this writing exercise, they can also participate (Martínez, 2012).

Best Adapted Screenplay:

As in the previous category, members of the writers' branch and others who have been nominated in these categories can vote here.

This category is responsible for rewarding those works that were based on something already existing, such as a play, a book or a story to adapt it to film (Hijo, 2022).

Best Makeup and Hairstyling:

This category is responsible for recognizing those makeup and hairstyle jobs that are done to the characters to get into the character they are representing. Only those that are done physically and not digitally count (Hijo, 2022).

Those in charge of choosing the winners of this category are the members belonging to the branch of makeup artists and stylists, in addition to the process that involved the makeup and hairstyle must be sent to consider the nomination (Martínez, 2012).

Best Production Design:

The designers branch, which was previously called the artistic directors branch, is in charge of choosing the award for this category, previously known as best art direction (Martínez, 2012).

This category is responsible for bringing together all the visual work that a film entails, thus making all sectors such as lighting, photography, makeup and costumes complement each other (Hijo, 2022).

Best Costume Design:

This category, beyond rewarding good costumes, seeks to recognize the harmony that it gives to the complete work. To compete in this category, the costumes had to be designed by a costume designer especially for that film (Hijo, 2022).

For this category, it is also the members of the designer branch who are in charge of its process.

Best Documentary Short:

This category is responsible for recognizing those works that do not exceed 40 minutes and that portray reality without interfering or modifying to a large extent the events presented (Hijo, 2022).

A committee of volunteers from the Academy also participates in the election, which works by points (Martínez, 2012).

Best Documentary:

The works presented in this category are all those that have a duration greater than 40 minutes and that are responsible for portraying real or factual events, therefore their recording must have taken place during the development of these events (Hijo, 2022).

The branch in charge of choosing the award in this category is a group of experts made up of several branches (Aguilera, 2021).

"Gentlemen, welcome to Fight Club. The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club!".

Best Live Action Short Film:

In this category, all those productions that have a maximum duration of 40 minutes participate and are presented if they have been released in cinema or on some platform or have won the main prize in one of the competitive film festivals recognized by the academy (Hijo, 2022).

Best Photography:

This category is also known as best cinematography and refers to the work of compiling the best images that make up a film (Hijo, 2022).

This category is chosen by the branch of directors of photography and must show the composition between the direction and the images that give life to the work.

Best International Film:

This category is responsible for rewarding those works that are not English-speaking, and the countries of origin are responsible for sending their representative so that the Academy can choose (Hijo, 2022).

For their election, a comprehensive committee is formed, which is made up of volunteers who are subsequently supported by one of the executive committees of the Academy (Martínez, 2012).

Best Soundtrack:

The branch of sound technicians are in charge of choosing in this category and all the films that enter their nomination are considered (Martínez, 2012).

However, the Academy verifies that these songs have been composed solely for the making of the film and there must be more than 4 original songs (Hijo, 2022).

Best Visual Effects:

In this category, those images that are impossible to recreate naturally and require specialized equipment to generate them to give life to the scenes are awarded; these are made by computer in post-production (Hijo, 2022).

The visual effects branch is in charge of choosing the winners and reviewing the process in which these effects were generated to choose the nominees (Martínez, 2012).

Best Sound:

As in best soundtrack, the branch of sound technicians are in charge of nominations and voting for this category (Martínez, 2012).

This category brings together the sound recording that is done during filming and the sound editing that is responsible for the entire sound design of the film (Hijo, 2022).

Best Original Song:

In this category, all those songs that are created exclusively for the reproduction of the film and are constantly shown in it are rewarded and recognized, whether it is the main song or the one in the credits. It must be composed of lyrics and music and the winner is the one who composes it the most, not the one who interprets it (Hijo, 2022).

Best Assembly:

The assembly branch is in charge of doing the nomination and voting process for this category (Martínez, 2012).

This is responsible for recognizing the best editions in the films, beyond simple post-production work (Hijo, 2022).
